Gary R. Simon

This Norfolk VA native began his career at the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau in June of 1996 as a Convention Sales Manager. Gary sold Sacramento for 2 1/2 years before becoming the Convention Services Manager. He worked in convention service for 2 years before becoming the Director of Multicultural Affairs. In his current capacity, Simon acts as the Bureau's director of multicultural affairs, a department created in 2001 in an effort to tap into the $50 billion multicultural convention industry.
The mission of the department is to promote the diversity and cultural heritage of the Sacramento region while increasing Sacramento's share of ethnic convention and tourism markets. Upon his graduation from high school in Anchorage Alaska Gary headed to California and received his B.A. degree in Sociology from San Francisco State University.
